Experience SADO – Taste Sado’s Life in a 300-Year-Old Home

See. Learn. Taste.
A moment in time you can experience only in Sado.

Step into a 300-year-old traditional house, trace the history of Sado woven into everyday life,
and savor local cuisine served on vermilion-lacquered trays once kept in the storehouse.

Seeing, learning, and tasting come together as one.
Here, you encounter a side of Sado found nowhere else.

A Culinary Journey Begins in a Traditional House

About a 20-minute drive from Ryotsu Port,
a traditional house that has stood for over 300 years rests on a hill overlooking the sea.

This is the former residence of the Kikuchi family, whose ancestors came to Sado during the Warring States period and played an important role in the island’s development through coastal shipping.

The experience begins with a guided tour of the house led by the host,
uncovering the history of Sado and the everyday lives of people in earlier times.
The beautifully preserved architecture and furnishings quietly convey the aesthetics and way of life of the past.

Savoring Local Cuisine as an Experience

After the guided tour, the experience continues with Sado’s traditional cuisine.

Using vermilion-lacquered trays once carefully stored in the kura storehouse,
along with lacquerware reserved for special occasions,
guests work together to arrange and enjoy dishes made from seasonal ingredients of Sado.

After following the story of the house, each meal becomes more than food—
it is a moment to savor Sado’s way of life and the passage of time as an experience.

A Quiet Island Time Found Along the Journey

This is an experience we especially recommend to those traveling to Sado,
offering a gentle, unhurried flow of island time.

Beyond famous landmarks, a deeper dimension of Sado reveals itself here.
We invite you to experience a side of Sado found nowhere else.
