We invite you on a unique walking tour that offers a deeper understanding of Sado’s rich history and cultural heritage. This time, our guide will be Professor Tetsuo Ikeda, Professor Emeritus at Niigata University and a renowned folklorist who has dedicated many years to the study of Sado.
With Professor Ikeda’s unique perspective and extensive knowledge, we will uncover the hidden stories and charm woven into the streets of Sado—things that might go unnoticed during an ordinary stroll. You’re sure to discover something new and unexpected.

#2: “Walking Through Ebisu, the Merchant District of Ryōtsu” (Tentative Title)

Area Highlights:
The Ebisu district, located near Ryōtsu Port—the gateway to Sado—is an area that once flourished through trade. Visitors can still feel the atmosphere of its vibrant past, including traces of the lively entertainment district that retains the charm of the Showa era.

#3: “Walking Through Minato, the Port Town of Ryōtsu” (Tentative Title)

Area Highlights:
The Minato district, located around Ryōtsu Port, has long served as Sado’s maritime gateway and is rich with stories of the sea. Here, you can explore the unique port-town culture shaped by the history of fishing and the once-bustling lives of sailors who came and went through this harbor.

#4: “Walking Through the Historic Streets of Aikawa” (Tentative Title)
Date: Saturday, June 28
Time: 1:15 PM – 3:15 PM (tentative)
Area Highlights:
During the Edo period, Aikawa thrived as the center of the Sado Gold Mine. Today, the area still retains its old-town charm, with streetscapes that echo the prosperity of that era.

#5: “Walking Through Kawasaki, the Riverside District of Ryōtsu” (Tentative Title)
Date: Sunday, June 29
Time: From 12:30 PM (tentative)
Area Highlights:
Kawasaki, located in the Ryōtsu area, once flourished through river transport. The district still features riverside scenery and old storehouses, creating a distinctive and nostalgic atmosphere.
