Hasegawa Yokunai
Born in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture. Currently residing in Niigata Prefecture. He conceived a trilogy of films set in a near future where Japan is divided into North and South. Based on research photographs for the project, he produced "Ascension River" (2012), which won an honorable mention at the 2013 Canon New Cosmos of Photography Awards (selected by Masafumi Sanai). His films include "Illumination" (2014) and "Dual City" (2015). He first visited Sado in the summer of 2019, and produced the short film "First Memory of the Ocean" based on footage he shot in Aikawa. In 2020, he participated in the Sado Island Galaxy Art Festival and completed a residency in Mushizaki (collaborating with Ryusuke Yamai on "The Room of Functions") before beginning filming for the film "Cosmo Corpus" (2025) in 2021.
