Sado Town Exploration Tour with a Guide #1: “Explore Ōgawa: Prints and Prayer Landscapes” – Participants Wanted
Located approximately 10 kilometers east of Ryōtsu Port, along the coast facing Tsugami Shrine – a site attracting attention for its geopark features and as a former port of call for Kitamaebune cargo ships – lies the woodblock print village of Ōgawa settlement. The heart of this village is the “Ōgawa Outdoor Print Museum,” where you can stroll through the well-preserved traditional scenery and view numerous woodblock prints displayed on the outer walls of the houses. These works are all created by the people who live here, capturing their daily lives from within their own experiences. Their simplicity possesses a breathtaking power, promising a fresh and memorable artistic encounter.
This town walking tour will guide you through the Ōgawa settlement, including the mystical scenery of Tsugami Shrine, accompanied by Mr. Masaichi Tanaka, who has long been a central figure in the woodblock printmaking activities of this area.

Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (2 hours)
Price: ¥1,000 per person
Included: Guide fee, Materials fee, Accident insurance
Minimum Group Size: 3 people
Maximum Group Size: 10 people (Minimum number for tour to proceed: 4 people)
Meeting Point: In front of the “Tsugami Island Park Map” tourist information sign, across from “Shinashinaya” near the Ōgawa bus stop on the Sado Ichishu Line (Prefectural Road 45).

- The tour will proceed in case of rain but will be canceled in the event of severe weather.
- Please bring your own beverage for hydration.
- Please note that there are no regularly scheduled buses at convenient times. We recommend participating on foot (for those living nearby) or by bicycle. If you plan to come by car, please contact the secretariat in advance.
- Please come to the meeting place by 10:45 AM.
