02.Live Between the Sea and the Mountains
Atsuko Nakamura(Japan)
What is nature? What is life? By focusing on the relationship between people and nature, I seek to uncover and give shape to the invisible connections in-between, as well as the inherent energy and memories hidden in places. Through natural materials such as driftwood, salt, and water, along with natural phenomena such as waves, temperature, and wind, I produce spatial works that consciously combine “parts that I create” with “parts that nature creates.” Recently I’ve been incorporating the element of improvisation into my research and creative process through what I call “body drawing,” where I use my body to express spontaneously what I see and feel on-site. Through physical dialogue, I seek to explore the physical and spiritual connections we share with nature in the modern age. I have exhibited my work and held workshops both in Japan and overseas.
